What is ValPrep?

ValPrep originated in 2023 as a research proposal by a group of Grade 12 – Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science students for their subject in Practical Research II. The first website, accessible as valprep.wordpress.com, was created to help students, primarily senior high schoolers, in their journey towards tertiary education and preparing for the entrance examinations present in most colleges and universities.

The website featured several key features, such as a list of tertiary education institutions located in the Metro Manila region, accompanied by detailed information about the institution in general, the courses they offer, the requirements for entering, and the deadlines to accomplish them. It also came with a page linking several open source reviewers, an external forums page, and a live chat section.

What’s New?

The original ValPrep project was an overall success, being successfully defended and accepted as a completed research. However, the website itself along with the methodology for testing had several notable deficiencies. The original website, while technically complete, was limited by the features available to the researchers who built the website, given their available tools at the time. Additionally, the data collection procedure was flawed, due to the lack of time and coordination, was unable to reach the desired goal of 150 respondents, and the data was mixed with results from junior high school participants.

These are the concerns that the new ValPrep 2.0 website seeks to remedy, continuing the original research project as part of the requirements for the subject Inquiries, Investigations, and Immersion of the researchers. Found in this website is a refinement of the original, with a new hosting service, cleaner aesthetic, upgraded features, and a renewed data collection procedure.
